a Scoop of

James Mulholland

I just reached into a folder & scooped out a variety of photographs shot from 2006-2007, locations in Central New York & the Greater Antilles!

Every shot is on the money, on the cutting room floor.

These photos were previously edited for a web gallery so they’re not encoded with the original equipment used and most of the locations were pretty familiar (my genera) except for the Caribbean where I was shooting with a Samsung Digimax. I also used two Canons; an EOS 300 and an ELPH daily (with the Samsung) around this time with all editing done using my Gimp.

This sample shows my practice in mastery of digital photography. In my immersion I snapped hundreds of photos, following countless series with most of them going directly into archives and lost in time.
I learned to take experimental shots at will without having to develop any film and I could take 100 more while waiting for the perfect shot to happen. I can review, edit and delete on the fly, giving me the power to direct the scene and leave the camera settings to the AI.
I can turn a 4×6 snapshot into something like Ansel Adams as long as I have enough pixels and the lighting is correct. Digital cameras are far lighter, more manageable, and very forgiving.
